Cozy ramen spot for a chilly Chicago evening! We arrived Saturday evening at around 5pm. Be prepared to wait 2-2.5 hours, but once you are seated, you will be treated with casual yet courteous service! There are only 4 ramen bowls to choose from, and only one option for vegetarian/vegan folks. I ordered the Mushroom Maitake bowl with Full spice (very spicy but really hits on a chilly day). In addition, the coconut drink tastes like a refreshing Piña colada! I highly recommend this place, but definitely make sure to plan to wait a few hours especially on a Saturday evening. It'll be well worth the wait!

High Five is definitely my favorite Ramen spot in Chicago! I usually order the Maitake Ramen without seasoned egg with half spice level. The taste is SO good, not even hyping up! The broth is made of mushroom, and it's delicious! My boyfriend got the Shio ramen without pork belly and he liked his Ramen as well. The only meat they have is pork belly, no chicken/ beef. I also ordered a snow maiden Sake along with my Ramen and the combination was perfect! Be careful of what spice level you choose, they definitely aren't joking when they say that their spice levels are feisty! This Ramen spot has very limited seats (not more than 10-12) They do not take reservations and usually wait time is a lot (at least over an hour over the weekends) My boyfriend and I usually write down our names and explore West Loop area in the meantime. The ambiance is a bit rusty and gives a typical speakeasy vibe. Our server during most of my visits was Shayan and she is pretty cool. I love her sassy and witty comments! I recommend this Ramen spot 11/10. It's simply the best!

OMG...this place was mouthwatering delicious... Ordered the tonkotsu ramen...which also is mixed in with miso. Did 1/4 spicy and I like spicy...could have added a tad more. It was BOMB. Original. Unique flavors. The pork belly literally melted in your mouth. We waited an hour or so...worth it . We got drink and 1 sushi roll across the street at Dokku.

I came here on a recommendation. I would suggest for a small party to go ahead and get your name down with the hostess, bar hop around and come immediately once you receive a text. It took about 1.5 hours for us to have a table, we were quoted for a 3-4 hour wait. Once you receive the text, you get only 10 minutes to arrive and check in. The menu is quite simple, as our server explained. She also mentioned that for such a small and high demanding restaurant (16 seats) there's a mandatory one-bowl per customer rule. So if you were bar hopping like me, plan to eat lightly. We were seated at the back bar, I like how they have water pitchers, silverware and napkins set every few seats. Our ramen came with 20 minutes. I got a shoyu ramen, 1/4 spice. I liked the broth it was rich, had a deep soy flavor. I liked the soy egg and the noodles were tender. Charsui pork isn't my favorite protein. I usually like to have it substituted with chicken but they didn't have that option here. All in all, it's alright. I was too full to truly enjoy it. When our bill arrived, they gave us a hot towels and some tasty hokkaido milk candy, it was a nice touch.

Came here for a solo dinner on a Thursday night! I do have to say this is ideal solo dinner vibes. There are only about 12 seats and I was told there would be a 2-2.5 hour wait (I showed up at 6pm). The hostess was very kind and said she would keep me updated if space opened up and I was seated in about 50 minutes! The service was great overall. The menu is small and I ordered the signature tonkotsu ramen at 1/2 spice. It started out not too bad but ended up getting reallllyyyy spicy as I ate! The person next to me ordered the same at 1/4 spice and wished it was spicier so I think I would go somewhere in the middle next time. The pork was extremely tender and flavorful which was great. Compared to other ramen places it wasn't my favorite though; I wished there were more toppings! At a certain point it felt like just noodles and broth and I wished there were some more textures. The portions are large though and I took about 1/2 home. I'd give the ramen itself 3/5 stars. The ambiance is easily 5/5 but the inaccessibility of getting in led me to 4/5 stars. Definitely worth checking out if you plan accordingly for the wait! Super cozy unique spot, just don't plan on coming with more plan one or two other people.

This place is super cool, and despite what other reviews say-- this is probably the best ramen in the city, but if you're looking for street ramen, this isn't the place to go. High Five clearly uses very high quality ingredients, the pork belly melts in your mouth, the broth has so much flavor and is definitely made daily because it always tastes a little different. Definitely a 5/5 gourmet ramen shop. If you don't want to wait, I definitely recommend showing up right at 4pm. Another review mentioned their small drinks. It's true, that it's a smaller slushee type drink but the cup holds more than you'd expect, it's a really decent serving and it's incredibly strong. The staff is always very friendly, polite, and prompt. Long story short, this ramen is coveted, and absolutely worth the struggle of getting in.
